The Cardinal Rules:

ALWAYS TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY ARE LOADED

NEVER POINT THE MUZZLE AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY

NEVER PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNTIL THE SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

BE CERTAIN OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT LIES BEYOND IT

General Safety and Use Guidelines

* Always wear shooting rated hearing protection while shooting firearms.

* Always wear A.N.S.I approved shooting glasses with side shields to protect your eyes.

* Always wear a hat with the brim pulled down snugly against the top of your shooting glasses.

* All shooters and personnel on the range should always wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants where steel targets are being used to reduce potential injury from lead and jacket particles.

* Only one shooter at a time should be allowed to shoot at auto-reset targets. Damage could occur to the target mechanism if a bullet were to strike it while the plate is moving.

* Never shoot targets at an angle, always line up 90° perpendicular to the target plate. If you can see any part of the target system other than the target plate, YOU ARE NOT LINED UP WITH THE TARGET.

* Use only high quality duty/service ammunition when shooting steel targets. Use only non-jacketed lead bullets when shooting handguns at steel targets (copper plated are O.K.).

* Rifle projectile velocity should not exceed 2,900 ft per/sec. at the point of impact with the target, set targets at the distance required to ensure this.If you are unsure of what that distance is or are using a smaller caliber high velocity round such as .270 .243 .22-250, etc. it is suggested that you start with the target at your longest practical range to see what damage is caused by your ammunition. Slowly move the target toward the shooter in 50 yard increments until damage begins to appear on the plate. Move the target back out 50 yards, and this is the minimum distance for use with your rifle. Or, you can go to handloads.com and use their calculator to get a good estimation.

* These targets are designed for .30 caliber rounds and .223 rounds are not recommended and likely will not produce much motion from the target. While the .223 has a lot of kinetic energy, it lacks the momentum to move the plate significantly. If you must shoot .223 or similar rounds, the target must be placed at sufficient distance from the shooter to eliminate damage to the plate. An audible sound will still be produced by the steel plate even if it does not move noticeably from the shooters position.

* Never shoot Armor Piercing, steel core or hardened type ammunition at any steel target!

* No Shotgun slugs! Shotgun lead birdshot and buckshot ammunition may be used.

* Recommended minimum distances from steel targets to shooter are 10 yards for pistols and 100 yards for rifles. Spectators should stand 10 yards behind the shooter.

* Use only properly constructed firing range with adequate backstop height (recommend 25 feet) and adequate down range safety area of 500 yards or more. Locate the steel targets as close to the backstop as possible to help reduce the ricochet and fragment splatter.

* Discontinue the use of any close range (less than 75 yards) steel target that has surface craters caused by wear or improper use on the steel target impact area. The steel target impact surface must be smooth and flat to safely use steel targets less than 75 yards.

* Nothing lasts for ever and that includes steel targets. By following these guidelines you should receive the maximum life span and safe enjoyment from your investment. Enjoy yourself and SHARE THE SPORT!
